HB 320: Hazard Duty Benefits for DJJ
Updated On: May 25, 2010 (19:39:00)

Status: This bill was heard in an informational hearing by the House State Government Committee on Thursday, March 25th.  AFSCME member Ben Burris, a Youth Worker from Adair YDC, testified in favor of extending hazardous duty benefits to juvenile justice employees.

The fact that this bill was heard is a testament to our hard work!  AFSCME members and youth workers across the state contacted their legislators personally and were able to get nine representatives to sign on as co-sponsors on the legislation.  AFSCME Youth Workers will be working in the interim to keep this issue alive!

AFSCME member Ben Burris, a Youth Worker from AYDC, and Kathy Blank, a former Youth Worker also from AYDC, testify in front of lawmakers and explain why juvenile justice employees deserve hazardous duty benefits.

No increased health care costs for state workers and our families!

The final budget will cut $94 million out of the state employee health care plan.  The Governor vetoed language in the budget that prescribed how these savings will be achieved- by increasing OUR share of the cost- and the decision now rests with the Personnel cabinet.

Stay tuned for more information on changes to state employee health care!
